Objective: Predict and test possible correlations between someone and their gait. Overview: For this project my group and I were assigned with testing the walking/running gaits of different subjects. We then analyzed the data and found the differences in them. We started by measuring the different dimensions of each of the subjects so that we were able to judge if there may be some sort of correlation with the data we get. In order to gather this data, we used an app on one of our group members phone that represented an accelerometer. We taped this meter to the subjects waist line and walked a fixed 20 feet that we diced on. The app measures the amount of acceleration each person exerts as well as the acceleration of different parts of your body. With this data that it gave us we were able to determine each persons gait and the unique manners they each walk in. By observing and analyzing this data, we quickly realized that there is a correlation between a persons dimensions and their gait. Key Concepts: Accelerometer: A device that measures the physical acceleration experienced by an object. Dynamicity: Quantification of kinetic parameters. Gait: The way a something or someone moves.
Reflection: There were many factors that hindered my groups ability to be fully efficient on this project. These included, gathering possible mentors, working on other assignments for the brainstorming of our capstone project, and the training done with the OP-51. This made it difficult for everyone to collaborate so we all took responsibility for bigger parts than usual. Another thing we did well was the actual testing of the gaits. We were very accurate and precise in the process of gathering everyone's specific sets of data. Although this project did go very well, there were definitely areas we could do better next time. One of these was the lack of data that we had on our presentation. We were missing a key graph of the data that was vital to the product. Next time we know to pay more attention to detail and make sure that we know exactly what we should present. Another thing we could have done better was increase the number of subjects to balance the data better and get more of an accurate representation. This would have helped our data greatly. Overall this project was very beneficial to us in ways more than just knowledge.
