Intro Over the course of this unit our class learned about the 11 different body systems. For our group project we had to research the endocrine and reproductive system. We had the choice of which systems we would want to do then we had to further research then. The research we did was how the systems works, what the system does, and what organs or cells are involved. Along with the research we had to plan out and build a model that would represent the two systems. We quickly designed the project and got straight to building. We also created a slides presentation showing more information on the systems to go with our model.
Content Endocrine System- the collection of glands of an organism that secrete hormones directly into the circulatory system to be carried towards distant target organs. Reproductive System- a system of sex organs within an organism which work together for the purpose of sexual reproduction Organ- a part of an organism that is typically self-contained and has a specific vital function, such as the heart or liver in humans. Gland- an organ in the human or animal body that secretes particular chemical substances for use in the body or for discharge into the surroundings. Cell- the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism, typically microscopic and consisting of cytoplasm and a nucleus enclosed in a membrane. Microscopic organisms typically consist of a single cell, which is either eukaryotic or prokaryotic. Hormone- a regulatory substance produced in an organism and transported in tissue fluids such as blood to stimulate specific cells or tissues into action.
Reflection Over the course of this project there were things we did well and things we didn't. One of our peaks was our collaboration. I was in a group with people I am very familiar with so we all collaborated effortlessly. Another positive thing we did was getting our work done on time. There is a balance between having fun and still getting work done and I feel that my group achieved this. A bad part of our process was not testing our model to check for flaws. This is important to do so that you can have a flawless final product.
