For our creative engineering we had to use a 9 step process that would help us complete the task at hand. The first of the steps was to identify a need. The need we chose was collapse proof bridges. The main cause of bridges collapsing was earthquakes, high winds, and strong water pressure. The research that was involved was to find different materials and techniques for a damage proof bridge. After researching the ideas for different materials we developed many possible solutions for materials that could be used for the bridge. After brainstorming and pondering through many different designs and ideas we came up with the best possible solutions that would make our bridge the most steady it could possibly be. Those ideas were fireproof prestressed concrete to protect against any sort of fires that occur near any concrete areas, earthquake resistant memory alloy infused columns so that when the wind or even an earthquake throws the pillars out of line or off of their original position then the alloy would allow the columns to snap back into regular position in case of any accidents, and football shaped columns to ensure that the water wouldn't get caught on one of the pillars and have the pillar crack under pressure. Next we built a prototype made out of modeling clay and wood. We shaped the clay into football like shapes. Making them into footballs was most effective because afterward we nested it and the football shaped pieces of clay gave us the best results. We thought clay was a good idea because it could be shaped easily.
My contribution to my group was somewhat poor so for that reason they gave me a mediocre collaboration score. One thing I did do well was research my topic for the presentation. I also participated in the building of the prototype which was not used in the actual film. One role I need to work on is being more of a leader in my groups I am sometimes easily distracted so my ideas were never really put forth to the minds of all my peers. In my group, I felt like I was at the bottom of the group. Regardless I needed to step up more and get my job done more efficiently and make sure that I try a little bit harder in future projects to come.
