Task For our final project we were tasked with creating a solution using biotech for a world problem by executing various stages of research. In order to create a viable solution the engineering design process, which includes identifying a problem, researching the problem, designing possible solutions, selecting a viable solution, and prototyping it. At one point we even sent am email to to a mentor that would assist us in creating this solution. For our problem my group came to a consensus on handling the issue of feeding the next billion. After much thinking my group decided on creating a way for people to be able to utilize urban and home farming thereby making gardening at home a much more available go to.
Key Concepts Population: all the inhabitants of a particular town, area, or country. Overpopulation: the condition of being populated with excessively large numbers. Carrying Capacity: the number of people, other living organisms, or crops that a region can support without environmental degradation. Urban Farming: the practice of cultivating, processing and distributing food in or around a village, town, or city. Home Farming: the practice of organic farming in your home. Composting: using decayed organic material as a plant fertilizer.
Reflection Over the course of this project the was a lot of freedom with the choices that my group and I made regarding our project. With this freedom also came a lot of responsibility when choosing our solution to try to make the correct one in the process. I feel we made a good choice and also good choices throughout the project. A peak from this project was my groups communication skills. My group and I collaborated very well and never had any hitches in communication. Another peak was our ability to come up with good ideas rapidly. We were able to brainstorm very well. A pit was our work ethic and the fact that we had to turn in some of the stages along the way in late. Another pit was how we were slightly unprepared for our presentation. Overall this was a very fun project that I am glad I got to take part in.
