Climate change affects humans and natural environments today and will continue to for the foreseeable future. Visual arts provide a great way to spur social change and to face the reality of climate change. There are not many active methods of mitigation so arts are a good way to engage us to take action. Because of what we have done to the earth, the public needs to be aware and understand how much this will effect us and our future generations. The approach to climate change is usually centered on the problems it causes: we discuss the size of our carbon footprint and our negative impact on the planet. These negative effects usually trigger feelings of fear and distress so our task is to alleviate these feelings by creating a piece of art that either shows us the effects of climate change or how we can stop it. Possible choices: 1. Animation/Cartoon or Video 2. Comic Book 3. Model/Diorama Once my partner and I chose the model idea, we did some research and created a mind map that included what we would do for our model as well as what we would put on our poster for the research section. We based our model on a timeline that includes an idea of what we believe our earth will look like in 30-50 years. Our model shows a number of houses and buildings that are submerged in water due to sea level rise. It also shows some trees that are knocked over due to the potential extreme storms that may come from climate change. Also not mentioned in our poster is how climate change is affecting our drinking water as well as our food sources which could become a very extreme issue for habitats and ecosystems all around the world. Not all places are going to experience this wet climate either, some places will experience drier times than they've seen in a very long time.
